How to Create a Skype Link
Skype is a Voice over Internet Protocol program, also known as VoIP. This software allows users to call, video conference or instant message other Skype users for free. Skype users can also send and receive calls or text messages between landlines and cell phones with a paid account. Skype users can use links on forums, blogs or websites to allow others to contact them through the program. You can customize a Skype button using the software's website.

Open your web browser. Navigate to the Skype button designer website (see References 1).

Enter your Skype user name in the corresponding field. This should the actual ID you use to log into Skype, not the appearance of your name within the program.

Select one of the button options if you do not want to customize the appearance of your button. The first set of buttons retain the same appearance no matter what your Skype status is. The second set of buttons change in appearance to reflect your online status. Click the circle next to your preferred button to select it.

Select the "Create a Custom Button" option to customize your Skype link. Indicate your preferences with the available options. The "Skype Status" option will determine whether or not your button shows your Skype status. You can change your button's function with the "Function" drop-down menu. The button will carry out the function you select. The content, size, style, color theme and background of your button can also be edited using the corresponding options.

Preview your button at the bottom of the page. Scroll up to the previous options to make changes to your button. Copy the HTML code from the text box if you are finished creating your button. Insert the code into your online signatures, websites or blogs to allow others to contact you on Skype.
