How to Clean Spanish Tile

Spanish tile is a durable, elegant flooring option that can be found in many homes and businesses. The tile works well in both indoor and outdoor areas, and is typically made of neutral colors that fit into nearly any decor. Some Spanish tile contains bright design elements reminiscent of traditional Spanish culture. Cleaning these tiles is an easy procedure that requires only a few simple cleaning products, as well as a bit of time and elbow grease.

Things You'll Need

• Bucket
• Mop
• Dish detergent
• Brush
• Broom

Instructions

1. Fill a bucket with a gallon of warm water and 2 tbsp. of liquid dish detergent. This mild cleaning agent will safely clean both the tile and grout, preventing damage or discoloration from occurring.

2. Dip a mop in the cleaning solution, then wring out excess water.

3. Wipe the damp mop across the flooring, using long, even strokes.

4. Dip a cleaning brush into soapy water, and scrub heavily soiled areas that are not easily cleaned with the mop alone. Repeat until all soil has been removed.

5. Mop the area once more to collect loosened debris, then let the tile air-dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Sweep the floors with a soft broom on a weekly basis to collect loose dirt and debris, which is often all that will be required to keep the tile clean.

• Never use bleach or other harsh chemical ingredients on Spanish tile; it can discolor both the tile and the grout.
