How to Change MS Word to Formal

Save

Microsoft Word is popular word-processing application that comes with automatic spelling and grammar check tools. Microsoft Word's grammar check tool has four settings: casual, standard, formal and technical. The formal setting is the strictest of the settings, meaning that it will highlight the most types of potential errors. The formal setting is a good choice for writers who want all possible errors brought to their attention.

  • Launch the Microsoft Word application by going to the Programs menu or the Applications folder.

  • Open "Preferences" in the Word menu and select "Spelling and Grammar."

  • Set the writing preferences to "Formal" using the pull down menu under "Grammar."

  • Recheck the current document using the formal setting by pressing the "Recheck Document" button. Press "Okay" to close the window and save the change.
