How to Assemble a Clarinet Flip Book
A music flip book is a small, plastic ring binder that attaches with a metal clip to a musical instrument, allowing the player to perform from sheet music, while walking, without a music stand. Each instrument has its own type of flip book clip with a different process for proper use and attachment, so assembling the pages of the book requires a little careful planning.

1
Organize the pages for the flip book. Each plastic divider page of the book will hold two pages of music, one on each side, but as you're flipping through them in performance, you won't be able to see the underside pages without flipping the whole book around. Place your music in order so that you only need to flip the book once; for example, if you have ten sheets of music and five plastic pages, place pages one through five on the top sides of the sheets and pages six through ten on the undersides.

2
Attach the pages to the binder rings in the order you'll need them. The first page of music you need should be on the top, rather than the the bottom, since it's easier to flip the pages over the top of the flip book in performance than it is to pull pages forward from the back side.

Clip the flip book to the lyre. The flip book should have a thick plastic backing with grooves that will fit securely into the metal clips of the lyre. If your flip book is missing this part (and has only floppy pages), fabricate a piece from some stiff material such as cardboard, as this will keep the pages from flopping over while you use the book.

4
Fasten the lyre to your clarinet. Take your clarinet partially apart, detaching the first and second joint of the instrument. Position the metal ring of the lyre between these two pieces and reattach them.

5
Secure the flip book against wind if you will be playing outdoors. Use a large clothespin or rubber band to hold your pages down while you play in order to keep gusts of wind from sending your pages flying out of order.
