Cultural centers are hallmarks of the community that can provide a place for education, holiday gatherings, lectures, activities, philanthropy and everyday fun. Whatever the culture, you can express and demonstrate it in beautiful ways through the use of a building. However, planning and developing the center takes hard work, creativity and money. Take several steps to plan and create a cultural center that will make your community proud.

1. Step 1

Establish a board of directors or planning commission among your community's leaders. This establishes credibility and allows the most knowledgeable or senior people to help direct the progress of the center. In addition, it will make fundraising easier.

2. Step 2

Request submissions for ideas about the center from your community. Include structural ideas for the building's shape and appearance. Also ask for ideas about the type of activities that will be pursued to help understand what rooms and facilities will be necessary. Request submissions of art work as well to decorate and beautify the center.

3. Step 3

Work with an architect, developer and other real estate professionals to create the blue print for the center. Develop a sophisticated sketch of the project as well as all the structural requirements. Find an affordable site with the recommendation of the property agent.

4. Step 4

Raise the money for the down payment on a center. Use the communication network of your community. Whether it is a website or email campaign, a years long fundraising campaign, a gala or a person-to-person effort.

5. Step 5

Purchase the land or building from the owner, and begin the construction process. Monitor the development closely and ask community members to contribute with any special expertise such as understanding of building codes or structural engineering.
