How to Treat Bleeding Gums during Pregnancy

There are a few easy ways to treat bleeding gums during pregnancy, including with the use of natural remedies. Bleeding gums during pregnancy are caused by increased estrogen which causes the gums to become soft, swollen and often times causes them to bleed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Increase your intake of Vitamin C with citrus fruits and green vegetables, or take it in supplemental form. If you choose to take it in supplemental form, take 200 mg twice per day.

  2. Step 2

Avoid eating spinach, rhubarb and chocolate. These foods inhibit your body's ability to absorb calcium and can worsen bleeding gums.

  3. Step 3

Take 250 mg of a Bioflavonoid complex. Bioflavonoids help to reduce inflammation of the gums and prevent bleeding.

  4. Step 4

Increase your intake of Calcium through your diet with foods high in Calcium, or take Calcium in supplemental form. Some foods high in calcium include leafy green vegetables, sea vegetables, soybeans and cultured yogurt.

  5. Step 5

Add 15 drops of Calendula Tincture to 2 ounces of water and use as a mouthwash then sput it. Calendula helps to heal the gums gently.
