How to Make a Lincoln Penny Pendant

Jewelry makers often create very beautiful and ornate pieces that can cost up to thousands of dollars. Making your own jewelry from old, attractive or unique objects can be a fun way to save money on buying jewelry. Items such as favorite coins, small pewter figurines or attractive tile and stone can make for a nice pendant or other unique piece. Creating a simple pendant out of a penny is a fun and easy wearable craft.

Things You'll Need

  • Vice
  • Penny
  • Drill w/ 1/16 drill bit
  • Copper jump ring
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Necklace or durable string

Instructions

    • 1

      Place the penny in a vice. Place it on top of the vice with the head pointing up.

    • 2

      Drill a hole just above the head of the penny using a 1/16 drill bit. Remove the metal shavings from the hole.

    • 3

      Place a copper jump ring into the hole. Open the jump ring using needle-nose pliers by prying apart slightly, slide an open end into the hole and then re-clamp the ring.

      Run any necklace that you wish to use through the jump ring. Ensure that the necklace fits the diameter of the jump ring and will either clasp or tie shut.
