How to Configure Vista for Comcast
Comcast is a company that offers a variety of services, including digital cable, digital voice and Internet services. Configuring Comcast for Microsoft Windows Vista requires following a set of steps in order to verify that the correct network properties are set. Click on the start button, then go to the control panel and click on "Network and Internet." Click on "Network and Sharing Center," then "Manage Network Connections," then right click on the icon for Comcast and select properties. This will bring up the network configuration options for your Comcast connection.

Click on the Networking tab toward the top of the connection properties box. In order to set TCP/IP settings, click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the properties button below it.

Click on the general tab. You should only have two buttons selected in general: "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically." If these are not selected, click on the radio button next to these options.

Click the "Advanced..." button toward the bottom right of the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties" box. This will bring up an Advanced TCP/IP settings menu. Under "IP addresses," "DHCP Enabled" should be listed. If it is not, click "Add..." and choose this option.

Select the "DNS" tab next to "IP Settings." If there is anything listed under "DNS server addresses" or "Append these DNS suffixes," select them and click remove.

Select the "WINS" tab next to the "DNS" tab. This will bring up a list of WINS addresses. If any WINS addresses are listed, select them and press "Remove." The only two options that should be selected below this box are "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" and "Default" under "NetBIOS setting." If these are not selected, select them and press "OK."
