How to Cover Up a Tattoo in a Halter Dress

Halter dresses are very comfortable and cool to wear on a hot day, but what if you are attending an event where you don't want to show off your tattoo? The shoulders, upper chest or upper back are very popular places for tattoos, and these areas will be bare if you wear a halter dress. Depending on the exact location of your tattoo and how large it is, there are a few ways you can cover it up, even in a halter dress.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a scarf around your neck to a cover a neck tattoo. Choose a scarf that is wide if you have a larger tattoo, and use a scarf that is made of a light material so you won't get too warm. Position the bulkiest part of the scarf (where you tied it together) directly over the tattoo. No one will know that you are hiding a tattoo, because this is also a fashion statement.

    • 2

Cover up any shoulder, back or upper chest tattoos with concealer and some loose makeup powder that matches your skin tone. Choose a concealer that matches your skin tone as closely as possible and another one that is several shades lighter or darker than your skin tone. Use a lighter or darker concealer with undertones that are opposite the color of your tattoo. For example, use a yellow-based concealer to cancel out a tattoo with a blue or purple hue.

    • 3

Apply the lighter or darker concealer all over the tattoo until you can't see the tattoo through it at all. Blend well around the edges.

    • 4

Dab or brush some loose powder over the concealer to make it resistant to moisture. If you sweat or go swimming, the concealer will not come off as easily, but you still will need to do a touch-up afterward.

    • 5

Apply the concealer on top with the color that most closely matches your skin tone. Dab it on liberally so that you can't see any one of the other color underneath, and use light, patting strokes to apply it so you won't disturb lower layers.
