How to Apply Eye Makeup for Blondes

Having blonde hair and a fair skin tone can make choosing eye makeup shades difficult. Eye makeup that flatters women with darker hair and skin can make you appear overly pale and washed out because it is too dark for your coloring. This doesn't mean you have to skip out on eye makeup--you just have to pick the correct shades that complement rather than overpower your hair color. The right shades should enhance your blonde coloring without looking harsh or artificial. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep a shimmery nude-colored eyeshadow (such as light brown or pale gold) across your eyelids to brighten up your complexion and bring out your light hair color. Avoid any eyeshadow colors that contrast too starkly with your hair color, especially if you have very pale blonde eyelashes or eyebrows, or the eyeshadow will overpower your face.

    • 2

Draw a thin line along your eyelids as close to your eyelashes as possible with a dark brown eyeliner pencil--you just want to make the base of your eyelashes look fuller to emphasize your eyes. Apply a very thin line on your bottom lash line if you want more definition. Avoid using black eyeliner if you have blonde hair because it will look too dark and fake against your light hair and skin.

    • 3

Squeeze your eyelashes gently with an eyelash curler to enhance them, especially if they are very light colored. Sweep one to two layers of a dark brown mascara onto your eyelashes to slightly darken and enhance them without appearing harsh and unnatural.

    • 4

Trace directly onto your eyebrows with a taupe eyebrow pencil if your eyebrows are extremely pale blond. Use very light pressure to avoid applying a thick line or changing your eyebrow shape. Rub your eyebrow lightly in the same direction as the hair grows to gently blend in the eyebrow pencil--this will slightly darken your pale eyebrows without making them look severe.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to add more color to your eye makeup look, select colored eyeshadows that have slight gold undertones to complement your hair color, rather than ones with a silver undertone that will clash with your natural coloring.

  • Always pick out shimmery eyeshadow colors that are similar to your hair color--matte eyeshadow will look too heavy on your fair skin.
