How to Make Hair Bow Patterns
Creating homemade jewelry and hair accessories allows you to match jewelry and barrettes to a certain outfit or to your personal style. Making accessories can also be less expensive than purchasing them, especially if you look for sales or buy in bulk. When making hair accessories, keep a record of what you made. Beading patterns, notes on colors and lengths and patterns showing how to make a bow you loved can be helpful when you try to recreate a favorite accessory.

1
Find grid paper with medium-sized squares, no smaller than ¼ of an inch and no larger than ½ an inch. This enables you to see your marks easily without having too much room. Make a bulleted list of necessary supplies in the top left corner with a colored pen.
-
2
Gather the materials you need and make the bow as you draw the pattern, step by step. This ensures all of your dimensions are correct and all of your steps are included.
-
-
3
Move two rows beneath your list and write "Step 1" in small letters in one color pen. Using different colors for different parts of the pattern makes it visually easier to follow.
-
4
Draw your ribbon, using the grid to show the length and width of the appropriate ribbon. Use a colored pen to mark the dimensions of the ribbon and make notes about pattern, wire edges and ribbon material.
-
5
Write "Step 2" two rows beneath the first step. Make the first fold in your ribbon and study how it looks. Draw the shape of the folded ribbon on the grid, using arrows to show which direction to fold the ribbon. You may also place the folded ribbon on the grid, line it up with the grid lines and trace it. Continue this way until you've recorded all the steps to making your bow.
-
6
Store the pattern with your craft supplies.
