How to Make a Tassel Lark's Head Knot

A tassel fringe is an attractive edging for many different items, including scarves, blouses, jackets, curtains, afghans and pillows, to name a few. An easy way to attach tassel fringe is by using a lark's head knot. This technique enables you to attach the fringe by looping it around the edge of the item and then through a loop in the fringe for a tight and secure knot.

Things You'll Need

  • Yarn or cording for tassel fringe
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Needle (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Cut pieces of yarn or cording for the tassel fringe. The length of each piece should be double the length you want the fringe to be. You will need enough yarn or cording pieces to space evenly along the edge of the item to create the tassel fringe (spacing each fringe piece snugly beside the next in a row).

    • 2

Fold a piece of yarn or cording in half. Place the folded end of the yarn under the edge of the item so that the fringe ends hang down evenly from the item and the top of the folded loop of yarn sits just above the edge of the item.

    • 3

Fold the top of the yarn loop over the edge of the item so that it sits on top of the fringe ends.

    • 4

Pull the fringe ends through the folded loop of yarn. Pull the ends tightly to complete the lark's head knot.

    • 5

Repeat steps 2 through 4 to continue attaching pieces of tassel fringe to the entire edge of the item.

Tips & Warnings

  • Depending upon what the item is made of, you may need to insert the folded end of the yarn or cording through a needle and then insert the needle through the edge of the item. Remove the needle to leave the folded loop and insert the ends of the yarn through the loop as described in step 3.
