How to Make a Finial Tassel
A finial tassel is an extravagant and showy tassel that you create using a basic wooden finial. You can dress the finial up by painting it first and then adding embellishments to the bottom of the finial in a succession of layers. The finished tassel can be as fancy or as simple as you desire, depending upon how you plan to use the finial tassel. Use finial tassels as window treatment embellishments, ceiling fan pulls or lampshade decorations.

1
Insert the eyelet screw into the rounded end of the finial, and screw it in completely. This will be the hanger for the finial tassel.
-
2
Paint the finial and the eyelet screw with the spray paint. Use a shiny spray paint in a color that will complement the ribbons and trims you plan to use to make the finial tassel. Allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding.

3
Select a fringe for the base of the tassel with a width of 3 inches to 5 inches. Apply a line of glue around the base of the finial, and wrap the base of the fringe around the base of the finial two or three times. Cut off the excess fringe, and glue the end securely.
-
4
Cut eight to 10 lengths of ribbon between 6 inches and 7 inches long. Use ribbons in complementary colors and of varying widths for a pleasing effect. Fold under each ribbon 1/2 inch on one end, and glue these folded ends over the base of the fringe you attached in Step 3.
-
5
Choose a different fringe with a width that is between 2 inches and 3 inches. Apply a line of glue over the ribbons you glued in the previous step, and wrap this fringe around the finial two or three times. Cut off the excess fringe, and glue the end of the fringe securely.
-
6
Add another layer of ribbons over the last fringe using the same technique described in Step 4.
-
7
Select a very short and puffy fringe for the top layer of the tassel. Apply glue around the base of the finial over the ribbons, and wrap this fringe around the finial to finish the tassel. Cut off the excess fringe, and glue the end of the fringe securely.
-
8
Cut an 8-inch length of 1/2-inch wide ribbon, and thread this ribbon through the eyelet screw at the top of the tassel. Tie the ribbon in a double bow, and use this to hang the finial tassel.

Tips & Warnings
Use fringe made with rayon chenille rather than acrylic chenille. Acrylic chenille will not look neat in a tassel.
