1
Write a business plan. A business plan is an important outline for business operation. It includes the business Mission Statement (the vision of the business), financial projections for the first year and subsequent years, marketing and advertising plans, a list of local competitors and their share of the local market and the background of all principal owners of the business. For financing, a business plan is a requirement as part of the application process.

2
Apply for all required state and local licenses and permits and decide on a business entity status. Licenses and permits are required to legally operate a business. Choosing a business entity status will depend on how many owners the business will have and the amount of personal protection the owners want. Two of the most popular entities are Limited Liability Company (LLC) and sole proprietorship. If you are going to have a storefront, then a retail license and permit will be required, as well.

Network and join local business organizations. All businesses need to network, but it's especially important for a business just getting started. Join local networking organizations and go to the functions. Give out your business card and explain your business. Networking is free advertising and can lead to new customers.

Have a Grand Opening sale. Depending on the kind of computers you are selling (custom built, resale of manufactured computers or refurbished) put together a computer package for customers. Include a computer, monitor and printer for a reduced rate.
If you offer other services such as computer repair, hard drive salvage or optimization, offer a discount for those services as well. If you offer on-site service, contact local businesses, schools, churches, and libraries and offer your services to maintain their computers. If something goes wrong with their computers, you could be in a good position to sell them replacement systems.

Tips & Warnings
A website is an excellent marketing tool for a PC business. Create an attractive website that showcases your services, or have a web designer build one for the business.
Teach a class at a local community college. It is a good way to showcase your skills and expertise.
Keep your rates competitive. You don't want to undercut the competition too much, but you don't want to price yourself out of your local market either.
