How to Make Soccer Hair Ribbons

Save

Soccer offers girls of all ages a chance to learn about teamwork, physical sports and dedication. One large component in feeling like a part of a team is wearing the team uniform. Uniforms give the players a sense of pride, team spirit and unity. To keep up with the sense of unity, try making team hair ribbons. It keeps the girls looking cute and keeps their hair out of their eyes while they play.

Things You'll Need

  • Ribbon
  • Elastic hair tie
  • Scissors
  • Purchase spools of ribbon the same color as the team uniform or school colors. Ribbon are available at any craft or hobby store.

  • Purchase elastic hair ties in the same color as the ribbon. The ribbons will be attached to the hair ties.

  • Cut the ribbon in 24-inch-long pieces. Cut one piece for each girl on the team.

  • Pull the ribbon through the hair tie. Hold each end of the ribbon so that the hair tie falls in the middle of the ribbon. Tie the ribbon in a knot so it stays in place.

  • Put the soccer player's hair into a ponytail, twisting the hair tie around the hair.

  • Turn the hair tie so the knot of the ribbon is on top of the ponytail.

  • Pull both ends of the ribbon down the sides of the ponytail, crisscrossing at the bottom. Pull the ribbon back up the sides. This is done so you can't see the hair tie, only ribbon wrapped around the ponytail.

  • Tie the ribbon into a bow.

Tips & Warnings

  • For added flare, buy fabric paint in the opposite school color. For example, if your school colors are green and white, buy a green ribbon and white paint or white ribbon with green paint. On one end of the ribbon, write the school name or the girls' last names with the fabric paint.
  • Avoid ribbons with sparkles. Soccer is a physical sport, and the sparkles can fall into the eyes of other players, causing irritation. Also, do not use a ribbon with wire running through it. The wire can rip through the ribbon and scratch the players.
