How to Find the Right Blue Jeans for My Size & Shape

Just about everyone owns a pair of jeans. They are so versatile and can be worn many times before washing them. Investing in a good pair of jeans that fit your body type can take a little bit of time. You need to try them on so you know when they "fit". Even though it takes time to find that perfect match, the time and money will be worth the investment.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat a good meal before shopping. Allow for breathing room so you know how your jeans will fit after a full meal.

    • 2

Opt for a straight leg skinny jean if you have a medium-sized body type. Buy a higher wasted jean that stops at the top of the hip bone, not a waist that dips below the hip. Use this style if you have a less than flat stomach. Buy a stretchy jean so you can move in them easily. Be sure they fit snugly, they will hold all the "wiggle" in and make you appear toned.

Purchase a dark wash jean if you have a larger body type. Stay away from the skinny straight leg jean and go for a boot cut style. Avoid a large flare leg style because this style will make you appear larger than you are. Wear a boot cut that fits snugly and comfortably in the buttocks area so you will have room to move in them.

Wear low rise jeans if you have a super thin body type. This will accentuate a flat stomach and enhance curves. Wearing the skinny straight leg style will possibly make you look like you are wearing a pair of leggings or tights, so go with a jean that has a little more volume at the bottom. Wear a ripped-up jean or a trendier style.

Dress an hourglass body shape with a slimming straight leg jean in any shade. Stay away from low rise jeans so you do not show off your voluptuous backside involuntarily. Wear your mid-rise jean with a nice belt to show off your hourglass shape.

Apply this same ideas from Step 5 if you are pear shaped, but with a few exceptions Buy a flair leg jean that does not go out farther than your hips so you can create an illusion of balance. Go with a dark wash or black jean If you are especially prone to wide hips, if not, any shade will be fine. Use the color to create a slimming effect. Never opt for any leg that gets smaller at the ankle; pear shapes should avoid the skinny straight leg style because you will look much shorter than you are.
