How to Draw With Felt Tip Pens
Felt tip pens are known to create smooth dark lines. Note that felt-tipped pens are not capable of shading lightly--they make dark, definite marks that cannot be erased or lightened. To shade a figure you have drawn with this type of pen, you will need to blacken the area that you wish to shade, or create lines, grids and hash marks. The more dense the hash marks, the darker the shading.

1
Draw your subject lightly with a pencil. Do not draw fine details, only draw outlines. Assume that anything you do draw will eventually be erased.
-
2
Draw over your pencil marks with the felt tipped pen. Your lines should be unbroken and drawn with total confidence.
-
-
3
Blacken the areas that will need the darkest shading.
-
4
Begin to shade the areas of the drawing that need medium-grade shading. Start off by shading more lightly than you think you will need, and darken as necessary.
-

Tips & Warnings
To make light shading, make grids that are open and are far apart. To darken the shading, draw lines in between the grid lines you've already placed in the areas that need shading.
Different artists will utilize different methods for shading areas that need to be shaded. Some artists will make their hash marks or grid marks in a tight, organized fashion. Other artists will simply draw lines of different lengths going in different directions, placed on the shaded area willy-nilly. You must pick the method that is right for you.
Before beginning a complicated drawing, draw a few pencil studies. Plan the shading and form. Practice drawing long, straight, unbroken, lines with your pen. Develop your control over the pen before delving into a big project.
Felt tipped pens can come in different widths and colors. Experiment with these as you develop your drawing skills.
