How to Input Music Onto an iPod

      Open iTunes, Apple's music management software. The program is located within your Windows "Start" menu or your Mac's "Applications" folder. If you don't have it installed, you may download iTunes for free from Apple's official iTunes page.

      Add music to your iTunes music library. Click "iTunes Store" on the left side of the iTunes window to download free and paid tracks from iTunes' online music store. Alternatively, import music from your CD collection by inserting a CD into your computer and clicking "Import" in iTunes.

      Connect your iPod to your computer using its included USB syncing cable. Insert the thin, flat end into the bottom of your iPod and plug the standard USB end into your computer. Once connected, the iPod will show up on the left side of your iTunes window.

      Wait. The iPod device will automatically sync with your iTunes music collection and transfer any music in iTunes onto your iPod. If you've disabled automatic syncing, click the iPod logo in the left-hand side of iTunes and press the "Sync" button.

      Press the eject icon next to your iPod's icon in iTunes. Disconnect the iPod from the USB cable and enjoy your music.

Tips & Warnings

  • It may take several hours to transfer all the music in your iTunes library to your iPod if this is the first time you've synced your iPod to iTunes.
