How to Bridge an Xbox to a Network

The Xbox 360 is a powerful gaming console capable of high-definition gaming, ripping music and other types of media and online play through Xbox Live. There are numerous way to connect an Xbox 360 to the Internet, including the ability to bridge the console to a network. Microsoft created an easy way to bridge connections between computers running its operating systems, such as XP and Vista, and the Xbox 360.

  1. Using Windows Vista

      Plug your Xbox 360 into a Windows Vista computer that's on a network by using an Ethernet cable. The Ethernet port is located on the back of the Xbox 360.

      Open the "Start" menu on Windows Vista and click on "Network and Internet" to open a new window with networking options.

      Click on the "Network and Sharing" button and click on the "Manage Network Connections" text located on the left side of the pane. You will then be able to view all of your network connections.

      Right-click your network connection and click on "Properties" to open a new dialog box. Click on the "Sharing tab" and then place checks in the two boxes to enable network sharing. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

      Hold the "Ctrl" key and click once on the "Local Area Network" icon and your network connection icon. Holding the "Ctrl" key allows you to select both connections.

      Right-click either connection icon and click on "Bridge Connections." The computer will bridge your Xbox 360 with the network connection.

    Using Windows XP

      Plug your Xbox 360 into the Windows XP computer on a network by using an Ethernet cable. The Ethernet port is located on the back of the Xbox 360.

      Open the "Start" menu on your computer, click on "Settings" and then select "Network Connections." This opens a new dialog window where you can edit your network connections.

      Hold the "Ctrl" key and click once on the "Local Area Network" icon and the icon representing the network you'd like to bridge your Xbox 360 to. Holding the "Ctrl" key allows you to select both connections.

      Right-click either connection and select "Bridge Connections." The computer will bridge your Xbox 360 with the network connection.
