How to Get Dogpile to Find My Website

Dogpile is a metasearch tool that provides search results by querying the Ask.com, Bing, Google and Yahoo! search engines. To ensure that Dogpile returns your website as one of its site listings, you first need to make sure that these major engines can easily locate you. By using a combination of methods, you can get your site listed in the various search engines and provide an effective way for Dogpile to effortlessly find your website.

Instructions

    • 1

Create an XML site map for your website by using a site map generator to automatically create this file for you (see Resources below). If you have the coding knowledge, you can opt to use an HTML text editor to hand-enter the necessary code. This site map is a detailed listing of all the URL pages of your site and it allows search engines, such as Ask.com and Google, to go over ("crawl") your pages so that they are all added to the directories. When created, place the site map file in the same folder or directory on your Web host that houses your other website documents so that the crawlers can find it.

Submit your website to Bing by accessing the "Bing URL Submission" page (see Resources). Type your full URL address (for example, "http://www.yoursite.com") in the provided text field and enter the required Captcha code to provide proof that you are an individual rather than a software robot. Click the "Submit URL" button to complete the submission.

    • 3

Add your site to Google by accessing the "Add your URL to Google" page (see References). Enter your full URL address and any comments in the associated fields, type in the Captcha code and click the "Add URL" button.

    • 4

Submit your site to the Yahoo! search engine by accessing the "Yahoo! Submit Your Site" page (see References). Click the "Submit a Website or Webpage" link, type in your complete URL address in the provided text box and click the "Submit URL" button to finish.

Visit related forums and blogs so that you can post your questions or comments and provide a way for your website address to be found on these other sites. Search engines find that your site is more relevant and important if other websites point to yours.
