How to Manufacture Craft Die Cuts
Making crafting die cuts most often used in scrapbooking, mixed media crafts and embellishment in other art projects can be as easy as pressing a button. Though hand punches (up to $25 each) and large crank punches (up to $125) are available, perhaps the best investment you can make is in an electric motorized shape-cutting system. These are set up to cut die cuts for crafting in two seconds or less. Popular models range from $100 to $170 so that you may emboss die cuts, make fabric die cuts or paper die cuts.

1
Plug your machine into an outlet where you have an adequate workspace area. Refer to the platform, or directions guide, if your machine has one. The Sizzix is one of the leading die-cutting machines, and although other machines should operate similarly, refer to the directions when following these few simple steps.
-
2
Locate the cutting pads; there should be two. Typically they are a thick clear plastic material. Place one on the table.

3
Locate your die. Place it on top the cutting board, face up. You should be able to see the design as you are looking at it. If you are unsure which side is up, refer to your directions.

4
Put up to three sheets of standard card stock on top of the die. Base the size of your card stock on the size of your dies, always ensuring the card stock is slightly larger than the die being used. Cover with the second cutting pad.

5
Move the entire stack to the back of the machine. Push into the guide area. When the stack is inserted, press the button. In a matter of seconds, the entire stack will be pulled electronically through the machine and come out the other side. Disassemble your stack to see your fresh-cut dies. Save any scrap paper for other projects.
