Instructions

  1. Build a Collage Pop-up Card

    • 1

Select photographs for your card and cut them, or tear by hand, to desired size or shape. Clip pictures, photos, words or text from magazines or newspapers. Choose the background for your collage from the clippings. Lay out your clippings and photographs and plan a design for your pop-up collage card.

    • 2

Make the card by folding a sheet of paper, construction paper or card stock in half so the shorter sides meet. Make a strong crease at the fold.

    • 3

Glue the collage background inside the card. Keep in mind the pop-up insert will be glued over a small part of the collage in the middle of the card

    • 4

Draw a 3-inch by 3-inch square on a piece of paper. Measure and mark 1 inch and 2 inches from the top of the square on the left and right sides. Draw a 1-inch square on each side of the square at the marks. Your drawing should look like a square with a tab on the left and right side. Fold the square in half so the tabs meet and make a sharp crease. Fold the tabs back toward the center fold. Position the square in the center of the opened card with the fold facing you and the tabs resting on the surface of the card. Adjust the position of the pop-up square to fit well when the card is opened. Glue the tabs flat to the card. Fold the card and press to crease the pop-up.

    • 5

Glue photographs or cutouts and create another collage on the pop-up piece in the center of the card. Embellish the pop-up collage card with markers, stickers or stamping.

    • 6

Cut or tear a 2-inch by 3-inch piece of paper, draw a decorative border or embellish with a photograph and write a message. Glue the message over any part of the collage or on the pop-up square.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use double-stick tape on photographs if you will want to reuse or frame them.

  • Allow the glue to dry thoroughly before closing the card and placing it in an envelope.

  • Use glue sparingly to avoid saturation and puckering of the paper. Apply white craft glue with a small brush in a thin, even coat.
