How to Make Pig Ears for Halloween

If you want a cheap Halloween costume, then try making your own this year. With a trip to your local craft store, you can turn simple craft supplies into intricate animal costumes. Replicate a pig costume by sticking to the basics. A headband, pink felt and cardboard are the three main ingredients that you need to make a Halloween set of pig ears. Instructions

    • 1

Draw two pig shaped ears on a piece of paper. The pig ears need to be 3 to 4 inches in height to be visible from a distance. You may want to look at a picture of a pig to make the ears look more realistic. Try drawing two upside down hearts if you have trouble making the ears.

    • 2

Cut out the pig ear template. Place the paper ear on pink felt. Trace out four pig ears on the felt.

    • 3

Place the pig ear template on the cardboard. You will need to trace out two cardboard ears. Once you trace the cardboard ears, cut the cardboard ears out slightly smaller than the traced template. You may want to measure 1/4 of an inch inside the outlined template to guide your scissors. By cutting inside the traced template instead of on the traced ear, you can make the cardboard ears slightly smaller. These cardboard pieces will go inside the felt to help make the ears stand on their own.

    • 4

Cut out the felt and cardboard ears. Place each cardboard ear over one piece of felt.

    • 5

Outline the felt with the cardboard on top with a hot glue gun. Immediately place the last two felt ears over the cardboard. Press down to ensure that the cardboard stays inside the felt ears. Wait for the glue to dry before continuing.

    • 6

Use the hot glue gun to attach the pig ears to a headband. You will have at least 1/4 of an inch of felt available on the bottom of each pig ear to attach the felt to the headband. On the bottom of the pig ear, fold the pink felt down by creasing the felt and attach it to the headband. You can also apply glue to the back of the pig ear and attach it to the front of the headband. Allow the glue to dry, and try it on to make sure the ears stay in place.
