Finding and Buying a URL
-
1
Find a domain name registrar. There are many websites online that offer domain purchasing services, and you can find them by doing a search for those terms. Choose a reputable provider, and expect to pay around $10 to $15 dollars for a one-year .com URL.
-
2
Search for available URLs. The domain name registrar's website will feature a search box that will tell you if your desired URL is available. If your first few choices aren't available, consider choosing a .net URL, try different spellings or add a number or geographic location to the name.

Consider registering more than just the .com. If you are starting a business website and want to protect the URL name you have chosen, you can also register the same name with a .net, . biz or .mobi at the end. Registering these names ensures that no one else will gain control over them.
-
4
Buy the URL. Complete the checkout process with the domain name registrar. You will be asked to provide the administrative and technical contacts for the site. Usually, this will be your own contact information. The minimum time period for registering a URL is one year. If you have long-term plans for your website, think about registering for a longer time period to save the hassle of having to make a yearly renewal.
