How to Get Rid of Acne Scars Cheaply with a Dermaroller

Advances in skin care have made it possible to get rid of past acne scars for good. There are lasers and peels and other expensive options, but a skin roller may help too. The dermaroller is a small roller device with short needles. They are available for $30 or less. The treatments do leave a "burn" on the skin. Plan on spending a few hours to do the treatment, and a day or so before going outside.

Things You'll Need

• 1 mm dermaroller
• Topical analgesic

Instructions

1. Remove all makeup, dirt and oil with one cleansing. Do a second cleaning to remove deeper debris. Do not scrub the face or use any acids or exfoliators.

2. Apply the topical analgesic according to the instructions from the manufacturer.

3. Roll back and forth over a square-inch area about 10 times. Roll side to side, then in diagonal directions, but lift the roller each time you change directions. Roll over the same area at least 40 times. The Dermaroller makes a popping sound as the soft needles penetrate the skin.

4. Take about 30 to 45 minutes to do the whole face. Do a deep treatment once a month. Rolling creates inflammation in the skin. This is beneficial in the short term to trigger deep healing and new collagen formation. However, weekly rolling could form new collagen.

5. Use a clean cotton cloth and water to cleanse the face after every rolling session. There should be a little blood and oozing. Do not attempt to put any creams or lotions on the face at this point. Avoid touching the face, and stay out of the sun for the rest of the day.

6. Rest for 1 hour after the treatment. The skin will close the small holes in that time. Expect to see the best results after a month.

Tips & Warnings

• Keep your face clean and without makeup for at least three days. You can apply sunscreen the next day.
