Use a tape measure to determine where you want the wine rack to hang. Note the dimensions of the wine rack. Allow adequate space for the rack to be within reach, but far enough out of the way so it won't be accidentally struck.

When hanging to a ceiling, use a stud finder to locate wood studs underneath the drywall. Mark as close as possible to the center of the wood studs.

Tips & Warnings
Measure the space where you want to hang your wine rack and have those dimensions handy when shopping for racks. In some cases, the chain or chord used to suspend the rack will be adjustable, but make sure there is plenty of room to hang the rack and allow for bottles and glassware to be placed in it.
It is important to mount a hanging wine rack where it is anchored into something solid. Take extra care to locate studs for all places where the hardware will be attached. Never mount a wine rack only into drywall, because it will not support the weight of full wine bottles. If possible, mount your wine rack into a wall or cabinet that is solid wood.
