How to Change a Windshield Wiper Switch

The wiper switch on your vehicle usually controls other vehicle components, such as the turn signals and cruise control, as well. When your windshield wiper switch finally dies, replacement switches can be purchased from auto parts stores if your vehicle accepts a universal switch. If not, purchase a switch from a dealership.

Things You'll Need

• New windshield wiper switch
• Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions

1. Remove the screws underneath the steering column cover that hold the cover in place, using a screwdriver. Normally, there will be two screws that hold the cover in place.

2. Pull down on the steering column cover to remove it.

3. Remove the electrical leads running to the wiper switch.

4. Remove the screws that hold the wiper switch in place, and pull the wiper switch off the steering column.

5. Install the new wiper switch. Installation is the reverse of removal.
