How to Create Shortcuts on a BlackBerry Curve
Although you can't change shortcut keys for the messaging, Internet browsing, media, calendar, and other features on your BlackBerry Curve, you can change the shortcuts on your home screen as well as where the buttons on the side of your Curve take you when you press them. Each of these changes requires a different process, but it will give you a personalized, more effective, BlackBerry-using experience.

1
Open your BlackBerry menu by pressing the menu key (looks like seven dots) while on the home screen. You will see a number of icons that represent the different applications, features and tools that are installed on your phone. Choose five of these icons that you would like to appear on the home screen as shortcuts.
-
2
Scroll to your first choice of icons, and highlight it. While it is highlighted, press the menu key and select "Move." A box will appear around your icon, and when you scroll, the icon will move to wherever you put it. Place it in the very left top corner of the menu; any icon in this corner will be the top shortcut on your home screen.

3
Press the menu key again when you have placed the icon where you want it, and select "Complete Move." The box around the icon will disappear, and the icon will sit, highlighted, wherever you left it. Repeat the process for four other icons you would like in your shortcuts, placing each icon in the second, third, fourth and fifth spots in the top row of the menu.
-
4
Press the back key (looks like an arrow, to the right of the scroll ball), and check to see if the icons you moved now appear as shortcuts on the home screen. If they do not, push the menu key and try the process again.
-
5
Click on "Options" in the menu, and scroll down to Screen/Keyboard to edit the shortcuts assigned to the buttons on the left and right sides of your BlackBerry. Scroll down until you see "Right Side Convenience Key Opens" and "Left Side Convenience Key Opens."
-
6
Highlight and click the word next to "Right Side Convenience Key Opens," and scroll down the list of options to change what function that convenience key serves. Click on the option you want to choose, and repeat for the Left Side Convenience Key.
-
7
Press the back button three times, saving your changes when prompted, and you will be back on the home screen, ready to use your new shortcuts.

Tips & Warnings
To see shortcut keys while in the Internet browser, media folder, message folder or calendar, click the menu key and select "Help." Scroll to the "See Shortcuts" option, and click it; shortcuts for that feature will appear on the screen.
Though there appears to be six spaces for shortcut icons on the home screen, the menu icon will always appear in the sixth (and bottom) space; you cannot replace or change it.
