  1. Remove Internet Explorer 8

      Shut down any open programs or open browser windows that you have open.

      Click on "Start" from your taskbar, and then click on "Control Panel."

      Look for the "Programs" option, and under that option click on "Uninstall a Program." When the next window comes up, select "View Installed Updates" from the left side of the window under "Tasks."

      Find "Windows Internet Explorer 8" and double click on it. Confirm that you want to uninstall the update.

      Restart your computer when you get notification that the uninstall is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • IE8 is the default browser with Windows 7, so if you remove it from your computer you will need to have a third-party browser. IE 7 is not compatible with Windows 7.

  • If you have installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 after upgrading to IE8, you will not be able to uninstall IE8 without uninstalling SP3 first.
