How to Set Up a DVD to a TV
Millions of people use DVD players in their home entertainment setups. Connecting a DVD player to your TV permits you to view DVDs on it, including the latest movies or custom made DVDs. All you need to set up a DVD to your television is the right type of connecting cables. You will have to decide what type of connection you want or can use, depending on the options you have available on both of your components.
Things You'll Need
- RCA audio/video cable (red, white and yellow)
- S-video cable plus audio cable (red/white) -- optional
- Component video cable (green, blue and red) plus audio cable (red/white)--optional
- HDMI cable (optional)
Instructions

1
Take the RCA audio/video cable and connect it to the back of the DVD player using the A/V (audio/video) "OUT" jacks. Match the colors of the connectors to the output jacks (red/red, white/white and yellow/yellow).
-
2
Connect the other end of this cable to the back of the TV using the A/V (audio/video) "IN" jacks. Again, match the colors of the connectors to the jacks.

3
Use an S-video cable in place of the yellow (video) cable for a better quality picture. Connect one end of it to the back of the DVD S-video jack and the other end to the S-video jack on the back of the TV. Connect the audio cables (red/white) as previously directed.
-
4
Connect a component video cable (green, blue and red) instead of the S-video cable for even a higher quality picture. Use the "OUT" jacks on the back of the DVD player (matching the connector colors (green/green, blue/blue and red/red) and the "IN" jacks on the television. Use the red and white audio cables with this DVD to TV setup.
-
5
Replace the component video and the audio cables with a single HDMI cable for the ultimate picture (and sound) quality. Connect one end to the DVD player and the other to the television, if it is available on both components.
