How to Sand Brazilian Cherry Wood Floors
Cherry wood floors are among the most distinctive and attractive hardwood floors. Things You'll Need
- Wood filler
- Drum sander
- Hand sander
- Medium-grain sandpaper
- Fine-grain sandpaper
- Wood finish

Prepare your floor to be sanded. Hammer down any nails that are sticking up out of the floor surface. Look for any gaps between the wood planks. Fill in the gaps with a wood filler that has a cherry tint. Allow the filler to dry.

Rent or buy drum and hand sanders. A drum sander is easy to operate and good for larger areas. A hand sander will be needed to sand the cherry wood floor adjacent to the walls where the drum sander can't reach.

Attach a medium-grain sandpaper to your drum and hand sanders. Remove as much of the floor finish as possible with the sanders.

Place a fine-grain sandpaper on both sanders. Sand the entire floor in the direction of the wood's grain.

Attach a very fine-grain sandpaper to both sanders Sand the entire floor. Sand until the wood can clearly be seen and the wood is smooth to the touch.

Vacuum up any debris from the sanding.

Refinish your Brazilian cherry wood floor.

Tips & Warnings
Floors that have a lot of damage may be have to be sanded multiple times. Sand in the direction of the wood's grain at all times.
Allergic reactions can result from cherry wood dust. Wear a painter's mask while sanding.
