How to Attach & Resize Pictures

Sharing pictures over the web and email is very common, especially since digital cameras have become popular. As digital cameras get better in quality, however, the images produced by these cameras are too large to send through email. You don't need huge image files to still have great quality, so these images can be converted to a manageable size for email attachments. The process is very simple and once you learn how, you can be sending pictures over the Internet in minutes.

Download image editing software. If you don't already have software for editing images you will need to download or buy some. There are several free software packages that work well. Google's free Picasa program, for example, lets you organize and edit images and has many other options.

Open the image editing application. Go to the open menu and choose the photo you want to edit. You'll generally find a resizing tool in the "Image" menu. (For example, in Photoshop go to "Image Size" under the "Image" menu; in PhotoSuite go to "Resize" under the "Image" menu.) Otherwise look for a menu that says something like "attributes" or "size." Reduce the image size to 800 x 600, or smaller, to make it a more manageable email attachment.

Open your email and choose to send a new email. Look for the "Attach" button. Click on this button and locate your image file. The larger the image the longer the email will take to send. Most email systems have a file size limit of around five megabytes for attachments.
