How to Play Age of Empires Through a LAN

The Age of Empires series is a group of computer video games developed by Ensemble and published by Microsoft Games. In the game, players start with minimal resources and are challenged to build their small tribe into a great civilization. Although Age of Empires has great single player modes, many find that it is most enjoyable when playing with or against friends. The Hamachi application allows users to play against each other in multiplayer modes over LAN or private networks.

Things You'll Need

• PC with Internet connection
• Age of Empires game

Instructions

1. Download and install the Hamachi application (see Resources). This application allows you to create Local Area Network (LAN) connections between you and anyone on your server without the need for any additional configuration.

2. Run Hamachi and create a new LAN for users on your server to join.

3. Download the AGE3vpn.rar file (see Resources). Use WinRar or WinZip to extract the contents of the AGE3vpn.rar file. Save the contents of the file to the Age of Empires directory which should be C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires.

4. Run the .exe file that you extracted (C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires/AGE3VPN.exe). Make sure all firewalls are unblocked. Firewalls may prevent other users from being able to connect to you.

5. Launch the game. Click on Multiplayer and select Local TCP/IP connection.
