1
Eat a well-balanced diet. What is good for your body is also good for your skin. Eat foods with Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Vitamin A helps maintain skin integrity; a deficiency causes cracked and dry skin. The body needs Vitamin C to produce collagen, a protein that helps skin maintain its youthfulness. Also, eat foods high in omega-3 acids, such as salmon, walnuts and flax seeds.

Drink plenty of water every day. Water keeps you hydrated internally and externally; 90 percent of our skin is water. Without enough water, skin looks dehydrated. Dehydrated skin looks shriveled, ages faster and is more likely to lose its firmness and elasticity. However, you can reverse this by drinking eight to 10 glasses of water daily. Water also flushes out toxins and impurities from your body.

Stop smoking. Nothing ages skin faster than smoking. The toxins in cigarette smoke poison your body, and your skin will show the effects of it sooner or later. Smoking also dries out and thins the skin, which makes skin more prone to the effects of gravity. By quitting smoking now, your skin can begin to repair itself and reverse this damage.

Do not tan and do not overexpose yourself to the sun. A little sun improves the mood and increases Vitamin D blood levels, but a lot of sun will play havoc on your skin. It will cause your skin to become dry, to lose its elasticity and to discolor. If you want a nice bronze glow, try a sunless tanning lotion.

Exercise at least three days per week. Exercise will improve blood circulation and prevent obesity. When blood circulates, skin cells receive the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Furthermore, exercise also fights obesity, which causes the skin to sag. For the best results, create an exercise program that combines flexibility, strength training and aerobics. The aerobics will burn extra calories and keep you slim. Although flexibility and strength training will not burn as many calories as aerobics, it will improve muscle tone and firmness.

Use skin care products for aging skin, such as alpha hydroxy acids and emollient-rich moisturizers. Exfoliate skin often to slough off dead skin and reveal new skin. By removing the outer layer, exfoliation will help your other skin care products to penetrate more deeply.
