Most of the time, adding new hardware or software to your computer will make it more useful, but there are times that adding a new piece of hardware or a new software package ends up damaging your computer. When that happens, it is good to know that you have the ability to take your computer back in time--to a time before that new software or hardware was added.

      Log on to your PC and click on the "Start" button. Choose "All Programs" from the menu and go to the "Accessories" menu. Click on "System Tools" and choose "System Restore" from the menu.

      Check the calendar of restore points and choose a restore point that is before the time you started experiencing problems. Highlight the appropriate restore point and click "Next." The System Restore process will start, and when it has completed the computer will automatically reboot.

      Log back on to your computer and confirm that you wish to keep the restore point you chose. Your PC has now been restored to its previous state.
