How to Start a Mail Forwarding Service
Moving can be stressful, but getting your mail forwarded from your old address to the new one is not.
The procedure can be done in person at a United States Post Office, via the mail, via phone or online at the United States Postal Service's website, www.usps.com

- Change of address card (if via mail or in person at post office)
- Telephone (if necessary)
- Computer with online access (if necessary)

Visit your post office in person: Locate and fill out a change of address form that comes with a moving packet. Be prepared with your old and new address information. Also be prepared to fill in a date as to when the forwarding should begin.Take the card to a post office attendant. You may need your social security number for identity verification purposes.

Visit a post office to obtain a mail-in form: Fill out the form and mail it to the address specified on the paperwork. The postage is free if it is mailed from within the United States.

Call the U.S. Postal Service at 1-800-275-8777 and request assistance in forwarding the mail.

Go online at www.usps.com and follow the links under change of address. Fill in the online form. For identity verification purposes, you will need to fill in valid credit or debit card details, and a $1 fee will be charged to the card.

Tips & Warnings
When using the online method, make sure the mailing address on credit or debit card is up to date or the transaction may not be successful.
It could take up to 10 business days for mail forwarding to begin. It might be worth a visit your old address one last time to check for stray mail.
