How to Replace String Loops on a Bow

String loops, also referred to as nock loops and release loops, have become standard on compound bows. A nock loop is attached above and below the nock point of the bow string and forms an attachment point for a mechanical release. Loops do need be replaced once in a while because they wear out or break. The good side is that a nock loop can be replaced at home without the cost of a visit to an archery pro shop.

Things You'll Need

• Nock loop material
• Lighter
• Razor blade

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of loop string eight inches long. A piece of string that's too long is easier to work with than one that's the exact length you need.

2. Form a U-shaped loop at one end of the string. Place the loop behind the bowstring above the nock point and bring both ends around the bowstring and through the loop.

3. Pull the knot tight and use a lighter to melt a ball on the short end of the string. This will keep the knot from pulling out.

4. Bring the remaining end around to the bottom of the nock point. Go over the bow string and back around the front of the loop string.

5. Run the end over the bow string and back through the loop. Pull tight, trim and burn the end.
