How to Emboss Cookie Cutters
Embossing is a great way to decorate and embellish ordinary cookie cutters. With just a few supplies you can create individual works of art that are not only beautiful, but functional as well. Process

1
Assemble your supplies. Place the cookie cutters onto the foil tape and cut the tape to fit. You may have to overlap some tape to cover the edges. Cut, fit and trim off any excess.
-
2
Remove the adhesive backing from the tape and apply to the cookie cutter surface. The adhesive backing is very sticky. Avoid getting it stuck to other surfaces. Try to make the edges of the tape meet, with little overlap. This will ensure a more even application.

3
Smooth out the surface of the foil tape with a plastic spoon. Run the back of the spoon over the surface of the foil tape; make sure there are no bubbles or wrinkles in the appearance. Pay close attention to any seams and smooth until they disappear.
-
4
You may add another layer of foil tape at this point. This will ensure a stronger surface for the embossing. Repeat the steps above and smooth out the foil tape completely.
-
5
Cut away any excess tape with the utility knife. Burnish all edges with the plastic spoon, making sure there are no sharp edges.
-
6
Cover the surface with a small piece of patterned paper such as wrapping paper or small patterned wallpaper. Attach with some tape.
-
7
Trace over the pattern on the paper with a pencil. Avoid pressing too hard, but press hard enough to create a pattern on the surface of the foil. Lift the paper to see if the pattern has transferred. If you are happy with the results, you are done. If not, add some more pattern, this time using the pencil freehand.

Tips & Warnings
Foil tape is available in a copper finish as well. It comes in 2-inch or 4-inch widths--choose the width that is best for your project.
Aluminum tape has sharp edges. Be careful when using not to cut yourself. Never run your fingers across the edges.
