How to Change the Order of Playlist Songs on an iPod

A compilation of great songs can be what helps make a party fun or a road trip more memorable. The order in which you play the songs can be just as important as the songs selected. If you have compiled a playlist and loaded it onto your iPod, but you wish you adjust the ordering of the songs, then you must reconnect the iPod to the computer on which you created the playlist to make the changes.

Things You'll Need

  • iTunes
  • Computer
  • Connect the iPod to the computer.

  • Open iTunes software. Under the menu on the left-hand side of the iTunes window, an icon for your iPod will appear, as well as a list of sub-menus below it.

  • Select the playlist you wish to edit. In the iTunes window, the playlist will open, with the tracks in the order you originally put them in.

  • Turn off the shuffle feature if it is on.

  • Click on, and hold, a song you wish to move. You can reposition the song by aligning it between the two songs you wish you to place it between. You can also perform this function for a group of songs by selecting them all and dragging them to where you wish them to be.

  • Eject the iPod. You playlist has been adjusted and saved.
