How to Remove the Seats from a Nissan Xterra

Save

Removing seats from the Nissan Xterra will allow you to replace or recover your seats. If a seat cushion or frame becomes damaged, you may want to completely replace it with a new seat or repair the part of the seat that is damaged. Removing them from the truck makes them easier to work on and the procedure is simple enough that it can save you time. There are just four bolts on the front seat frames that retain them and they can be removed with a socket or wrench.

Things You'll Need

  • Metric socket set
  • Ratchet
  • Metric wrench set

Removing the front seats

  • Slide the front seat of your Nissan Xterra all the way back on the frame. Locate the two bolts on the floor board that attach the seat to the floor.

  • Remove the two retaining bolts on the front of the seat with a socket and ratchet or a wrench. Save the bolts so you can reuse them to reinstall the seat.

  • Slide the seat all the way forward to locate and remove the rear mounting bolts. There are two of them and they are on the rear floor board right behind the seat.

  • Locate the electrical connector on the seat belt attached to the inboard side of the seat. The short section of seat belt that you plug the shoulder belt into is attached to the seat, but the connector is attached to the vehicle's wiring harness. It must be disconnected before removing the seat.

  • Unplug the connector, releasing the locking tab on the connector and laying the wiring harness on the floor. Lift the seat out of the vehicle through the door opening.

Removing the rear seats

  • Locate the four mounting bolts on the lower rear seat cushions. There are two bolts that hold each cushion in front of the seat on the floor board.

  • Remove the four mounting bolts using a socket and ratchet. Lift up and pull forward on the lower sear cushion to remove it from the truck. Pull the cushions out through the door opening.

  • Locate and remove the mounting bolts that hold the seat back in place. There is a bolt on the outside lower corner of each seat back, against the outer wall of the truck.

  • Release the seat latch that you would use to fold the seat backs forward and lift the outside corner of the seat back up. Slide the seat back out of the bracket on the inner corner and remove it from the truck.
