How to Play iTunes Video Files on a Windows Media Player

ITunes plays videos that are in certain formats. These formats won't play in Windows Media Player. The formats that iTunes plays are MOV, H.264, and MPEG-4. To play these in Windows Media Player, you'll have to convert them to a format that Windows Media Player will understand. It sounds complicated, but relax, its an easy process.

      Download and install Winff. This is a free video converter you will use to convert the videos.

      Launch the program and click "Add" in the top-left corner. Locate your video file in the finder window and click "Open." Once it is listed in Winff, click the first drop-down menu next to the words "Convert to ..." and select "Microsoft." In the drop-down menu next to the words "Device Preset," click "WMV 2 Generic."

      Select where you want the video to be saved, once it is converted, by clicking the button labeled "..." on the right side of the window next to "Output folder." Finally, click on "Convert" at the top, a black window will open and the video will be converted. When it finishes, it will display the words "Press any key to continue."

      Locate your newly converted video and double-click it. Since it is in WMV format, Windows Media Player will automatically open and play it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be patient because converting can take time depending on how big your video files are.
