How to Increase the Download Speed of a Torrent

A torrent is a way of downloading files from the Internet. The download speed of a torrent determines how quickly you have the complete file. Increasing the download speed can be a time-saver when the file is very large, and there are tricks and programs that will accomplish this.

Instructions

1. While in the process of a download, launch the uTorrent freeware program, which is available for download at utorrent.com.

2. Right-click on your torrent in the uTorrent program. Click on "Bandwidth allocation" and select "high." This will increase the amount of resources your Internet connection uses to download your torrent.

3. Launch a torrent download accelerator such as uTorrent Turbo Booster, linked herein. This program will optimize and increase the download speed of your uTorrent program, making the download speed of each individual torrent faster.

4. Give your uTorrent program permission to go through your firewall, which could be severely slowing down your download speed. Open the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel."

5. Double-click "Windows Firewall." Click the "Exceptions" tab in the Firewall screen. You should see your torrent program there, with an empty check box next to it. Click the box to add a check mark.

6. Click "Add Programs" if you don't see your torrent program listed. Locate your torrent program's EXE file and double-click it. Add a check mark in the box next to it, then click "OK." Your torrent program will now surpass your firewall, making downloads work better.

Tips & Warnings

• Download only one torrent at a time. If you download more, the download speed of your torrent will likely diminish.
