How to Cut a Solar Pool Blanket
Many pool owners buy solar blankets in order to warm pool water efficiently. The blanket uses sunlight to heat pool water, cutting the cost of using your home's heating system to raise your pool's temperature. However, solar blankets often do not come in the exact shape and size of the pool it is going to cover. Cutting a solar blanket has to be done precisely, so there is no damage to the investment.
Instructions

1
Lay the solar blanket over the pool, with the bubble-side of the blanket face down.
-
2
Leave the blanket for several days. This will allow the folds (from being packaged) to flatten out and will allow for any shrinking or expanding, which occurs due to sunlight exposure.

3
Use scissors to trim around the edge of the solar blanket so that it reaches slightly beyond the edges of the pool. Wait several days before reassessing the fit of the blanket.
-
4
Trim the edge of the solar blanket, if necessary, to make sure it fits flush against the side of the pool. It should not overlap with the pool wall, as this would put the blanket at risk of moving with a strong wind. If the blanket fits correctly, surface tension should keep it securely over the pool.

Tips & Warnings
Do not cut the solar pool blanket on a grassy area or lawn. The sun's rays are absorbed by the blanket, and can damage your lawn.
