How to Remove the Volume Control on the Taskbar of a Computer
The system tray area of the Windows taskbar includes icons of the currently running programs, start-up applications, a clock and volume control. If you want to completely remove the volume control, you will have to use the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu.

Go to the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel".

Double-click one of the following icons depending on the operating system installed on your computer:
"Sounds and Multimedia" in Windows 2000;
"Sounds and Audio Devices" in Windows XP;
"Sounds" in Windows Vista and 7. -

Click on the "Sounds" tab in Windows 2000 or "Volume" in XP, Vista and 7.

Uncheck the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" option, click on "Apply" and then "OK" to save the new settings.

Tips & Warnings
You can also right-click the volume icon in the system tray, select "Adjust Audio Properties" and then proceed with Step 3.
In Windows Vista and 7, you can right-click on the "Start" menu, select "Properties", click on the "Notification Area" tab, uncheck the "Volume" option and click on "OK".
Another way to access the "Sounds and Audio Devices" menu is to go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "mmsys.cpl" and hit "Enter".
