How to End an Item on eBay

Sellers wishing to sell items to the highest bidder often turn to eBay to list their items for sale. From time to time, it may be necessary to end an auction early. Whatever the reason, eBay makes it possible to end an item you have listed on eBay without penalty as long as you follow the guidelines and abide by the regulations. Follow eBay's procedure carefully when you must end your auction early.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit eBay.com and log in to your eBay account. Visit your "My eBay" account page and assess the item you have listed to see how much time is left and whether the item has any bids.

    • 2

Understand that eBay places no restrictions on ending a listing if there are over 12 hours left before the listing ends. If there are over 12 hours left and the item has bids, you have the option of cancelling the bids or selling the item to the highest bidder. If there are less than 12 hours and there are no bids (or cancelled bids), you can still end the item. If there are less than 12 hours and there are bids on the item, you can still end the item, but you must sell the item to the highest bidder. If there are bids (but your reserve price was not met), you cannot end the item.

    • 3

Navigate to the "End My Listing Early" form.

    • 4

Enter the item number from the listing (you can find this number on the listing page) and click "Continue."

    • 5

Decide how you wish to handle any bids your item has. You can choose to cancel the bids or sell to the highest bidder, depending upon the factors outlined in Step 2.

    • 6

Fill in a reason for ending the item early. Click "OK." This will end your listing immediately.
