How to Hook Up a Linksys Four Switch Router

If you need to link computers together so that they can share information, or if you want to link computers so that they all share the same Internet line, the way to do this is by using a router. Linksys makes a 4-switch router, meaning that you can connect up to 4 computers, or a combination of computers and printers, to the router to allow sharing between the devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the ethernet cable to the ethernet port marked "1" on the back of the router, then connect the other end to the ethernet port on your computer.

    • 2

      Turn on your Linksys router.

    • 3

Insert the Installation CD that came with the router into the CD drive. Follow the prompts to install the configuration software.

    • 4

Connect the other computers or devices to the other switches on the Linksys port.

    • 5

Connect your DSL or Cable modem to the router using the Internet port on the back. Note that some modems may need additional configuration to work with a router. Consult your modem or ISP's technical support for more information.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use a web browser to connect to the router for additional maintenance. Use the address 192.168.1.1 to connect to the router.
