How to Connect a PC to an Apple Router

Apple sells two routers: the Airport Express and the Airport Extreme. Either router will connect to a PC running Windows 8.1 or earlier, either wired or wirelessly. If the Apple router is already running and you know the name of the wireless network and network password, connect to the network as you would any other router. If you are setting up a new Apple router with your Windows PC, install the Apple Utility and follow the on-screen instructions.

Install the Airport Utility for Windows

  • Apple includes a disk utility installer with all Apple routers. If you do not have the disk available, you can download the utility from the Apple website (see Resources). Install the Airport Utility to your PC.

Set Up Your Network

  • Connect your modem to the Apple router and connect your PC to an Ethernet port on the Apple router. Open the Airport Utility program and create your network. Select and enter your network name and location. Create a password and re-enter the password. Click “Next” to finish the installation. You can now access the Internet wired or wirelessly just as you can with any other router.
