How to Connect to WinMX
The peer-to-peer network program known as WinMX is a program that no longer receives updates. WinMX was formally closed in 2005; however, many users have banded together in order to keep the WinMX network running. Because of this change, many people have a hard time figuring out how to connect to the network in order to be able to use it. There are steps that you can follow that will get you back onto the WinMX network and sharing with others again quickly.

1
Download the WinMX Pie Patch. The Pie Patch is designed to allow you to reach the WinMX network easily, following the closing of the official WinMX network. Without this patch, you will not be able to connect. The download is free. Open the file once it has finished downloading, and it will automatically install itself into your system.

2
Run the command "flushdns". This is necessary for many people running Windows 2000 or XP. This command clears the previous cache of the WinMX network and needs to be removed. To remove it, click your "Start" button, then click "Run." Once the window pops up, type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press "Enter." Open WinMX, and it will automatically connect to the network.

Run the command "services.msc" if the above step still didn't work for you. Open Run by clicking "Start." Type in "services.msc" and hit "Enter." In the window that comes up, select "DNS Client," then right click it and select "Properties." Under startup type, select "Manual." Click "Apply," then restart WinMX to allow the program to connect automatically to the network.

Tips & Warnings
If you can't get WinMX to connect to the network after following these steps, double check that your Internet connection is functioning properly. Try going to different websites and seeing if you can connect. Reset your modem if the problem is Internet connectivity, then try running WinMX again. If your Internet connection is fine, check to see if your firewall is blocking your connection to WinMX. Look at your firewall's blocked list and see if WinMX is listed. If so, add it to the allowed list instead, then reconnect to WinMX.
