1
In the pot, cook any type of rice according to package directions, seasoned to taste with salt. With most rice, add one part rice to two parts water and bring to a boil together until the water is gone.
-
2
Cut the meat (optional) into bite-sized strips. Tofu or tempeh may also be used, as well as fish or other seafood.
-
-
3
Add oil or butter to the skillet, 1 tbsp. per bowl, and bring to medium heat on the stove.
-
4
Add the meat to the skillet, along with the seasonings of your choice to taste, and stir until just cooked. The meat will continue to cook with the vegetables, so at this point it should be rare. Seafood and fish will cook quickly, while beef, pork and chicken may take a bit longer.
-
5
Add the chopped vegetables to the skillet, along with more seasonings, if necessary. Stir with the meat for no more than two minutes, so the meat isn't overcooked and the vegetables stay crisp.
-
6
Spoon the rice into your bowl, and top with the skillet mix. Add salt to taste.
-
7
For an authentic Korean rice bowl, crack one egg over the skillet and fry at medium heat. Top the bowl with the fried egg and serve.
