How to Add Movie Intros to Powerpoint
When giving a presentation, grabbing the audience's attention is the first priority, and using a movie or video clip as your introduction is a way to do just that. If you are presenting on a topic where a visual demonstration is helpful or necessary, a video can also help you include that without the risk of mishaps interrupting your demonstration. As long as you already have the video saved to your computer in .asf, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, or .wmv format, inserting the video is easy.
Things You'll Need
- Computer with PowerPoint installed
- Video to insert (.asf, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv only)

1
Open Microsoft PowerPoint, and create a second slide in addition to the title slide, if you wish to begin your presentation with a title slide first, followed by the movie intro. Make sure that the second slide is the one appearing on your screen before you continue to the next step, where you will insert the movie intro.
-
2
Click on the "Insert" tab, next to the "Home" tab in PowerPoint 2007. Click the "Movie" button on the toolbar, and select "Movie from File" if you are given options. (In older versions of PowerPoint, simply go to "Insert > Movie.") A window will pop up, allowing you to browse your computer for the video you want to use.

3
Locate your movie file and double-click it to insert it into the PowerPoint slide. You will be asked if you want the movie to start automatically or if you want it to start when clicked. If you select "Automatically," the movie will begin immediately as you leave the title slide. If you select "When Clicked," the video will not begin until you click on it after the slide has been opened. Choose whichever works for your presentation.

4
Click and drag the corners of the video box that appears so it takes up the whole slide. If the video box is shaped so the sides or top and bottom of the slide show around the video box, consider changing the background of the slide to black for the best viewing conditions. This can be done by right-clicking the slide outside of the video box and clicking "Format Background."
-
5
Preview your video at this point to check its quality after being stretched in size. Start the slide show and check to see if the video starts automatically or when clicked as you chose, and decide whether the video has become too grainy for your liking or not. If it has, exit the slide show and make the viewing box for the movie smaller, and change the slide background to black if needed.
-
6
Complete your PowerPoint presentation design, including creating an attractive, informative title page, and test the entire show to make sure that the video and all other slides are functioning as you intend.

Tips & Warnings
If the video you want to use is not in a format that works with PowerPoint, try downloading a video file converter online to change the format to one that is compatible.
Make sure you have permissions to use videos you did not make. Cite the makers of the movie as a source at some point in your presentation if you do have permission.
